Team USA is just one win away from its third World Cup title. In its way however, is the technically gifted and disaster-inspired Japan.

The Women's World Cup final is this Sunday, July 17th, at 2:45 p.m. EST from Frankfurt, Germany and will be the first time the US face off against Japan.

Whoever wins Sunday will certainly make history. No team in the previous five World Cups has won the title after losing one of its group matches.

Both Japan and the US lost their final group games to take the second spot in their respective groups.

Japan overcame Germany (to be fair, a surprisingly weak Germany) and Sweden to make it to its first final while the US took down Brazil (to be fair, a not very hard-working Brazil) and France on its way to its third final appearance.

The US is hoping to become the first three-time winner of the World Cup while Japan is hoping to win its first (fourth nation overall).

This US team has faced a lot of criticism and adversity on its road here. They were the last team to qualify for the finals and have played inconsistent football much of the last year.

But they've shown up at the right moments. And I'll take scoring goals when they really count over constant, flashy football any day (France).

Japan has won fans all over the world for their impressive football this tournament, and they have brought hope to a nation ravaged by a tragic earthquake and tsunami in March.

Japan passed the ball around Germany and Sweden with ease and can play possession football for hours on end. But if Christie Rampone and the rest of the back line hold firm like they did against France, all that possession could come to nothing.

And even if they get through, that's Hope Solo in net they'll be facing. Will Aya Miyama's free kicks be good enough to fool even the No. 1 goalkeeper in the world?

Keep it here on B...
