With the Copa America less than 12 months away, it is a good opportunity for Dunga to look at some fringe players who could make his squad for that tournament—while also building upon the basis laid by four successive victories this season.
It is not a time for mass change and trialling of options. However, a few hand-picked changes will allow for better insight into fringe players while continuing to build upon the team's established platforms.
Looking at the Brazil-based omissions, it is in goal and at centre-forward where Dunga will principally have a chance to experiment.
Dunga's formula has been relatively simple thus far. Botafogo's Jefferson has lined up in goal, Danilo and Filipe Luis appear to be the first-choice full-backs, with fit-again Thiago Silva likely to partner Miranda at centre-back.
It is a solid base to work from, with David Luiz and particularly club colleague Marquinhos also having made strong cases for inclusion at centre-back. Mario Fernandes and the attack-minded Alex Sandro, meanwhile, are the full-back alternatives.
With Jefferson unavailable, then, Dunga will have to shuffle his goalkeeper cards. Rafael Cabral of Napoli, having been in all squads this year, would appear most likely to be given a starting berth, while Valencia's Diego Alves and Fiorentina's Neto are also regularly performing at a high level.
Any of the three would be a good option, but it will likely be Rafael—seen as the long-term future of Brazil's goalkeeping position—who will take the jersey on this occasion.
