It is likely that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will take the starting striker role in Van Persie's place on Wednesday against a Mexico side who will be looking to avenge their World Cup last-16 loss to the Dutch in the summer.
Van Persie's reportedly short-term injury will come as good news to United also. With Radamel Falcao having continued fitness issues, Louis van Gaal could do without further absentees when the international break is done.
