Pele Auctioning Off World Cup Medals, More Memorabilia

ESPN FC reported the 75-year-old, thought by many to be the greatest player of all time, will list around 2,000 items at a London auction, and the man himself said he wants to "allow fans and collectors to own a piece of my history as well."
The auction is set to take place from June 7-9 and will include a unique Jules Rimet trophy fashioned for the former striker. Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, told Jill Serjeant of Reuters the item could be worth up to $1 million.
Pele won the biggest tournament in football a record three times during his playing days, in 1958, 1962 and 1970. His elegant, powerful and purposeful style of play lit up these competitions, including his efforts in 1958 as a 17-year-old. In total he netted 77 goals in 91 appearances in the iconic Selecao jersey.

Away from the international stage, Pele also had plenty of success with Santos, where he won six Brazilian titles and the Copa Libertadores on two occasions.
As noted by ESPN, he is alleged to have scored an impressive 1,283 goals in a career which spanned over two decades. It's reported that the ball with which he netted his 1,000th goal will also be up for sale at the auction.
According to Jack Bezants of the MailOnline, one of Pele's New York Cosmos shirts will also be available, as well as a pair of boots worn by the great man in the 1970s.
