Mexico Avoids Further Humilliation After Defeating Colombia In Friendlies

The victory was needed since the Mexican National Team was facing an increasingly hostile fan base that wanted a victory.
Efrain Flores was also feeling the pressure as coach since the firing of Carlos Ischia as coach of Atlas and the resignation of Puebla's coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola being recent news in Mexican Soccer.
Mr. Flores has not forgotten the recent firing of Miguel Herrera as coach of Estudiantes de Tecos after a dismal beginning in the 2010-2011 Mexican Football/Soccer Season.
The victory was made possible by a last minute goal by Elias (a.k.a El Patrullero) Hernandez, who kicked the ball with electrical power toward the Colombian goal post.
The Mexican National Soccer Team may have had the desire to win but their hearts were not in this game until the last minute.
Both teams appeared to be sluggish in their organization and consistency in every aspect of the game, including attempting to score a goal.
Efrain Flores (who is the coach) expressed satisfaction over the results, although he admitted that the team has a long way to go. Mr. Flores stated that the team will have to change tactics in offense and defense without further elaboration.
Nestor De La Torre (who is the President of the Mexican Football/Soccer Federation) expressed his satisfaction of Mr. Torres as coach for the time being. Mr. De La Torre refused to elaborate any further on his comments.
I do not want to imagine what would have happened if Mexico had lost to Colombia after losing to Ecuador. The team still has a long way to go if it wants to advance in future tournaments such as the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Mexico must start from the bottom again and recover from the hangover of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
