James Rodriguez Injury: Updates on Real Madrid Star’s Shoulder and Return

The Real Madrid man fell awkwardly in the second half of Colombia's 2-0 victory over USA and now faces a battle for fitness.

Colombia Optimistic of Rodriguez Return Saturday, June 4 Although James Rodriguez didn't exactly set the world alight for Real Madrid over the course of 2015/16, the way he performed in Colombia's Copa America opener showed he still has plenty to offer.
The midfielder was a constant menace to the USA defence throughout the match, and when he converted a 42nd-minute penalty to put Colombia into a 2-0 lead, he stamped his authority on the game.
It was on the international stage where Rodriguez first made a real name for himself, stealing the show at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Since then, he's gone on to bigger and better things with Madrid and continued to show fabulous form with his country. In fact, his goal against the USA took him into Colombia's top five all-time goalscorers, per OptaJavier:
So, it's clear that Rodriguez is very important to Jose Pekerman's side, and the manager himself said he's hoping to have the midfielder back in Copa America action before too long, via ESPN FC:
I want to be optimistic. James is very important for Colombia. We also know he has a lot of desire to play. But I think the medical professionals know to what extent he'll be running a risk. We cannot take a fast decision.
I don't want to think of the negative. We will see, we will be optimistic, and we hope that James will recover well and we will have him on the field.
While Pekerman didn't reveal the extend of Rodriguez's injury, his optimism could mean he will still play a part in the rest of the tournament.
