Germany’s Sami Khedira 10th to Win World Cup and European Cup in Same Year

Khedira, a rumored transfer target of both Chelsea and Arsenal this summer, started for Real Madrid on May 24 in the 2014 UEFA Champions League final, which ended with a 4-1 extra-time victory over cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid.
Khedira had a rather uneventful day for Real on May 24, as he picked up a yellow card in stoppage time of the first half and was later subbed out in the 59th minute with his team trailing 1-0.
Like the CL final, Sunday's match required extra time, only Khedira wasn't involved in the contest at all.
Expected to start in the midfield after notching a goal and an assist in a 7-1 semifinal trouncing of Brazil, Khedira came down with a calf injury during warmups before Sunday's match. He was replaced in the lineup by Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer, who now has just five caps for Germany's senior team.
Had Argentina emerged victorious in Sunday's final, Khedira's Real Madrid teammate Angel Di Maria would have instead become the 10th player to pull off the vaunted double. Oddly enough, Di Maria was also absent from Sunday's match, unable to play for a second straight game because of a thigh injury.
Prior to Khedira, the last player to pull off the double was legendary left back Roberto Carlos, who did it for Brazil and Real Madrid in 2002.
Incredibly, eight of the 10 players to accomplish the double have been German, and all 10 played for either Madrid or Bayern Munich, per ESPN FC.
Of course, as pointed out by India.com, seven of those 10 players were teammates for both Bayern and West Germany in 1974.
