Abby Wambach Comments on Hope Solo’s Remarks After Loss vs. Sweden in Olympics

After the USWNT crashed out on penalty kicks Aug. 12, Solo called the Swedes a "bunch of cowards."
In an interview Thursday on The Dan Patrick Show, former USWNT star Abby Wambach discussed her disappointment with Solo (via Sports Illustrated):
I had big problems with that. You never call another team cowards after you've just been beaten. The rules in the game are the rules in the game and you don't want to be a sore loser -- not when you're the best team in the world. To me, that looks weak.
That's like playground stuff. Be a professional. Stand up and say, "You know what, they beat us at our own game. They played better than us today." Call a spade a spade.
In the interview, Wambach also said she and Solo had personality clashes as teammates:
In addition to Wambach, both Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan distanced themselves from Solo's opinion of how Sweden played.
"I saw her comments, but I feel like those are opinions I don’t share," Morgan said in an interview with USA Today's Nicole Auerbach.
"I mean really disappointed, to be honest," Rapinoe said to NBC Sports (via the Guardian). "That's not our team, that's not what this team has always been, that's not what this team will be in the future."
The United States Soccer Federation suspended Solo for six months and terminated her contract in the aftermath of her remarks.
Production company Fullscreen, working on a documentary about members of the USWNT, shared a short clip of Solo's immediate reaction after hearing of her punishment:
