In the postgame interview, he decided to take his frustration out on CONCACAF.
ESPN.com reports Howard took exception with the fact that the trophy presentation ceremony was conducted in Spanish:
"CONCACAF should be ashamed of themselves," Howard said. "I think it was a [expletive] disgrace that the entire post-match ceremony was in Spanish. You can bet your ass that if we were in Mexico City, it wouldn't be all in English."
Though you can see where Howard is coming from, his logic is faulty. The reports yesterday were that the stadium was about 80 percent Mexican fans and 20 percent U.S. fans. If they were in Mexico City that number would be even more heavily skewed towards Mexico. It does not make sense to do something in a language that a vast majority of the intended audience will not understand.
Howard is a passionate player. He is very animated on the field, and he takes goals scored against him very personally. Had it been any other time, the Everton No. 1 would have probably been smart enough to think it but not say it publicly. Now he has potentially cast himself as a sore loser and stereotypical egocentric American.
