Zurich Classic: Bubba Watson Booms His Way to the Lead Down on the Bayou

Watson and Australian Matt Jones are currently tied for the lead at six-under par down on the bayous of Louisiana.
Jones, not as long off the tee as Watson, had to settle with getting to six-under the par the old fashion way, firing eight birdies on the day to go along with two bogeys.
At one point, Jones, who started his round out on the back-nine, made four straight birdies from holes 16 through one.
The Aussie also had a hot putter today on the TPC Louisiana course, taking just 25 putts with the flat stick and averaging 1.46 putts per green. Jones then made a late charge, birdieing each of his last two holes to tie for the lead with Watson at six-under.
The leader board was shifting around during the early hours today. Watson and Jones now lead a gaggle of six players at five-under, which include Joe Durant, Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey, Carl Pettersson, John Rollins, Nick O'Hern and David Duval.
Yes, that David Duval.
A few days ago, I looked at four players that we could watch for at this week's Zurich Classic. Let's see how they fared today in round one's action.
I thought Luke Donald would contend riding his wave of great golf heading into New Orleans. Donald is currently tied for ninth place with his round of four-under today. Not too shabby of a pick there.
Then I went with Brandt Snedeker. Thinking "Sneds" played so well in coming from behind to catch Donald last week in Hilton Head, he had to be a no-brainer right?
Not so much.
Snedeker shot an opening round of five-over 77 to sit in a tie for 137. There are currently only nine players worse off than Brandt after round one.
Not such a good pick there.
