Young Rory McIlroy Sent Tiger Woods a Letter Warning Him of His Future Takeover

The New York Times' Charles Siebert published a feature on the 25-year-old golfer Tuesday detailing the story of Rory's life and his journey from a crib-bound infant at the practice range to the player whose dominant rise may signal the official end of the Tiger Woods era in golf.
This passing of the torch may have been less of an inevitability than a promise kept for McIlroy, who, according to Siebert's story, sat down at the age of nine and wrote a letter to Woods warning him of his eventual takeover.
According to Siebert, Rory's uncle, Brian, recalls his nephew penning a letter to Woods after winning the 1998 Doral-Publix Junior Golf Classic in Florida. He doesn't remember its exact wording but says the message's general timbre was that of a warning.
"I'm coming to get you. This is the beginning. Watch this space," is how Brian paraphrased Rory's message.
Rory told Siebert that Brian's recollection of the letter sounds about right.
"A lot of those memories have kind of blurred together," Rory said. "But yeah, it went something like that."
Well then.
I guess if you're going to write your idol, tell him you are endlessly inspired by his work and then promise his coming destruction at your hands, you might as well deliver on it, right?
To be sure, McIlroy is still very much at the foothill of Tiger Mountain, having won four majors to Woods' 14. It's also a bit premature to start eulogizing Woods—one of golf's most fervent and talented figures—at the age of 39.
The overall trajectory, however, looks good for McIlroy's promise.
