The tournament takes place at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., featuring many of the biggest names in the sport. It is also in the unique gap between the final major of the year—the PGA Championship—and the highly anticipated Barclays event.
Only the top 125 players in the FedEx Cup standings get an invite to the upcoming tournament next week at Liberty National Golf Course, so a number of notable players on the bubble are looking for a big showing to clinch their spot.
Those who have already earned an invite to the next tournament will look to improve their position as they look for a big payday at the Tour Championship.
Before any of this can happen, however, the players must first do well in a competitive atmosphere in Greensboro.

Players did not waste time putting up low scores in this tournament, as there were plenty of red numbers on Day 1.
Chris Stroud got out to an early lead in the tournament thanks to a six-under 64. Starting on the 10th hole, the Texas native had eight birdies in an eventful day.
With his four top-10 finishes on the year, do not be surprised if Stroud, who is tied with Englishman Ross Fisher after Round 1, remains in contention throughout the week.
Jordan Spieth is another player trying to build off a great season, which includes a win at the John Deere Classic. He is currently one stroke back after shooting a 65.
