Wyndham Championship 2012: Sergio Garcia Finds Winning Form at Sedgefield

Garcia, who has had trouble finishing tournaments over the years, ended with an 18-under 262 at Sedgefield after a rain delay caused the Wyndham Championship to conclude on Monday. He finished two strokes ahead of second-place Tim Clark, and he did so while scoring a 66 in his final two rounds.
The 32-year-old, ranked No. 25 in the world, has racked up an amazing 17 top-10 finishes at majors throughout his career, but he has yet to win a major. He failed to notch a top-10 finish at a major this year for only the second time in 12 years.
But such is the beauty of golf's unpredictability. Just when you think Garcia is fading, he shows shades of the form that once had people comparing him to Tiger Woods.
Garcia rattled off three straight birdies from Holes 15 through 17 in the final round on Monday. On No. 15, he hit an impressive chip from the greenside bunker to within five feet of the hole. On No. 16, his tee shot plopped within two feet of the hole. His birdie on No. 17 gave him enough distance to come away with the victory.
Garcia's driving accuracy (64.29 percent) and greens in regulation percentage (72.22) at Sedgefield were way up from his averages this year. He was ranked 134th and 120th in driving accuracy and GIR respectively this year coming into the tournament, per ESPN.
Garcia also putted better, registering 1.538 putts per GIR at Sedgefield (compared to 1.769 this year).
Mind you, this was coming off missed cuts at both the British Open and the PGA Championship, and Garcia had only one top-10 finish on the PGA Tour this year (dating back to the Northern Trust Open in February).
