In a released statement Woods said, “The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta.”
Many golf fans are no doubt excited by the news of Woods’ return. Let’s be honest: Tournaments are simply more fun to watch when Tiger is competing. He brings an energy to the competition that no other player can.
He also brings television ratings and excitement to the galleries like no other.
Tiger and the Masters is always a big deal but this year multiply that big deal by a thousand.
All eyes are usually on Tiger when he’s playing in a tournament, but this year multiply those eyes by a thousand.
This year Woods brings something to a tournament he never has before: notoriety.
After months of being subjected to dozens of sordid tales regarding Woods’ sexual proclivities, will golf fans still be pulling for Tiger?
In a perverse way, some people may view Woods’ first post-scandal run at a major title as a comeback. But to quote the wisdom of LL Cool J, “Don’t call it a comeback.”
Great comeback stories are made when an athlete overcomes an injury, perseveres in the face of personal hardship, or wins the big game when critics and common logic say his or her better days are in the past.
