That means yours truly will begin following the popular grouping of Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson and Ian Poulter off the first tee at the ungodly hour of 7 a.m. Talk about three strong personalities. This trio should be fun to watch up close.
Woods struggled to a 1-over-par performance Friday that set him back to 1-under par for the tournament. Watson is also 1-under after an even par second round. And Poulter is at even par after rounds of 71-69.
I won't go so far as to say one of these players is a threat to win this golf tournament, but on a course where 6-to-8-under is not out of the question, I'm not counting any of them out just yet.
That's the group I have chosen to keep tabs on—at least for nine holes. At that time, I'll probably be ready for a second breakfast in the media lounge.
Then I'll consider keeping pace with the leaders. The final two groups of the day tee off at 9 a.m. Of particular interest to me is the threesome of Ryan Moore, Rickie Fowler and Adam Scott. All three are tied for the lead at 8-under.
Moore has been the most consistent of the bunch, firing matching rounds of 4-under 66. Fowler worked his way into a tie for the lead with an impressive second round score of 64. And Scott exploded out of the gates with a sizzling 8-under 62, but could only manage an even par day Friday.
Keegan Bradley is also tied for the lead at 8-under. He will play alongside Martin Laird and Robert Karlsson (both 7-under) in a group that also begins play at 9 a.m.
Another group of particular interest to me is the trio of Phil Mickelson (even), defending champion Hunter Mahan (even) and Padraig Harrington (1-over). It would be a tall order for any of these players t...
