With a $10 million purse up for grabs, the U.S. Open is one of the richest tournaments of the PGA Tour where the winner will take home $1.8 million, the same amount Jordan Spieth took home last year, according to GolfAndCourse.com.
Predictions Dustin Johnson Will Get His Major
Dustin Johnson finished in ties for second at the U.S. Open and British Open during his career, but this year at Oakmont will be the time he finally gets over the hump.
This course plays wonderfully into Johnson's favor, as it is loaded with a number of long, expansive holes that stress golfers to be accurate while also being powerful:
Johnson is among the top five golfers in the U.S. Open field when it comes to having the longest drive, as he continuously eclipsed the 300-yard mark. On top of that, his driving accuracy at Oakmont is hovering near the 70-percent mark, which has put him in some solid scoring situations.
After those big drives, he has shorter, more manageable opportunities to find the greens with his approach shots, which has shown in his numbers.
The PGA Tour showed his first shot on the par three, 164-yard 13th hole, which showed just how accurate he's been:
He's hit close to 85 percent of his greens in regulation over the first two rounds, which will only give him more opportunities to lower his score.
On a course like Oakmont, those opportunities don't come often. So if Johnson is able to take advantage of his power and accuracy, he'll be taking home a title and $1.8 million as the U.S. Open champion.
