Despite an up and down day on Friday, Reed still has a share of the lead. He had six bogeys on Friday, but luckily for him, he also had five birdies and an eagle. To create some distance between he and Spieth—as well as the other remaining contenders—Reed has to show more consistency.
Spieth's three-under 67 was a really solid round, but it could have been a lot better. After a masterful day that included six birdies, Spieth bogeyed the 16th hole. If not for that misstep, we'd be talking about Spieth in sole possession of the top spot on the leaderboard.
At just 21 years old, the 2015 Masters champion could be setting himself up to win the second major championship of the year.
Spieth's rise to the top of the sport is impressive. Reed seemingly respects what Spieth has accomplished, but he's looking forward to the challenge, per Kyle Porter of CBS Sports:
"It's going to be fun. Anytime I play with Jordan, I enjoy it. The main thing for me is to stay focused and focus on what I need to do to play some good golf. And plot my way around this golf course, especially if it gets firmer and faster and knowing where to leave the golf ball."
These two men might find themselves in a playoff at the end of the tournament if Reed can right the ship in time for a strong final round of golf.
