Starting the day with a four stroke lead, Stenson planned for a conservative round, making pars and daring the other golfers to catch him.
Under partly cloudy skies at East Lake Golf Club, a chase pack mounted an attack but in the end, they never got closer than two strokes.
Rookie Jordan Spieth charged through the back nine once again to get to 10 under, while veteran Steve Stricker posted the same score thanks to an eagle on the 15th. In the end, it wasn't enough to unseat the dominating Swede, who played four days of near-perfect golf. Stenson faltered only during the back nine in a heavy downpour on Saturday; if not for that, his lead would have been even more insurmountable.
Stenson finished his day with 14 pars, three birdies and one bogey to post a 68 and go 13 under for the win, three strokes ahead of Spieth and Stricker.
Tiger Woods' 67 on Sunday left him well out of contention for the Tour Championship but was still enough to earn him a second place FedEx Cup finish. Stricker, Adam Scott and Zach Johnson rounded out the top five.
After four weeks of playoffs, the golfers have earned a well deserved rest before reconvening for the Presidents Cup starting October 1.
