Tiger Woods to Play 2015 Wyndham Championship After Missing PGA Championship Cut

"We discussed it in detail over the weekend. It was not appropriate to confirm during the PGA Championship," Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, told ESPN.com in an email, per Bob Harig. "Tiger has heard great things about the event and is looking forward to the week."
Woods will play with Hideki Matsuyama and Brooks Koepka, with a scheduled tee time of 7:50 a.m. ET on Thursday, per Golf Channel's Tiger Tracker.
Jason Sobel of ESPN.com thinks it is the right decision for Woods:
Woods has never played in this particular event, but his motivations for doing so seem to be twofold. For one, he's 187th in the FedEx Cup standings and currently ineligible for the first FedEx playoff event, the Barclays, where only the top 125 players in the standings advance.
However, if Woods were to finish second at the Wyndham Championship, he would have a shot to qualify for the event.
But Woods may also play simply to get another event under his belt as he looks to improve upon his recent struggles.
"I think it's more just building," Woods said after he missed the cut at the PGA Championship, per Harig. "People keep asking me this week, 'Is it your season?' No, it's not really about the season, it's about the year."
It's been a rough year for Woods. He's missed the cut at the last three majors and doesn't have a top-10 finish on the season. He followed his best effort of the season, finishing 17th at the Masters, by finishing 69th at The Players Championship.
Injuries and inconsistency have marked 2015 for Woods, and the Wyndham Championship will offer him another opportunity to iron out some of the kinks in his game.
