Tiger Woods PGA Tour: EA Sports Wise to Pair Woods and Another Golfer on Cover

The new Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game won't just have Woods on the cover, and fans can vote on Facebook to decide which golfer should join Woods on the cover. Golfers you can vote for include Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and more.
This is a great move by EA Sports because they know what everybody else knows: Tiger Woods has lost his edge in the golf world.
The folks that vote are the ones most likely to purchase the video game, so this is just a way for fans of the video game to get hyped-up for the latest Tiger Woods PGA Tour game.
Sports video games aren't entirely difficult to sell, but golf is a little different from football and basketball.
Last year, EA Sports kicked it up a notch and included The Masters at Augusta National on the game, which is why they had to change things up this year.
How do you top the Masters?
Toss another golfer on the cover and hope more people buy it because they were the ones that voted on it.
It's a big gamble, but I like the move by EA Sports. Tiger was barely on the cover a year ago, so it's not a big surprise that the folks at EA Sports are doing this.
Woods hasn't been relevant in golf, and although he brings in the casual fans to watch golf whenever he plays in the Majors, he's just not as popular as he once was.
This is nothing more than a marketing ploy, but that's how business works, and EA Sports had to do it.
If EA Sports just uses Tiger on the cover, the sales aren't going to be great because there's no reason for fans to get excited about it.
