Tiger Woods Injury Update: Star Speaks on Recovery, Potential for Return in 2016

"I want to play [this year]," he said in an interview with Jim Nantz during the CBS broadcast of the Quicken Loans National, per ESPN.com's Jason Sobel. "I don't know if I will, but I want to."
"I'm just trying to get my body to do what I want it to do, when I need it to do it," Woods said, per Golf Channel. "Gonna take time."

While he didn't play in the 2016 Masters Tournament, Woods was practicing in April in hopes of making his return, which built some optimism regarding his comeback.
But on June 7, he confirmed on his website that he would be out for both the U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National: "While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year's U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National. I am making progress, but I'm not yet ready for tournament competition."
Woods' back has given him numerous issues in recent years. The 40-year-old had back surgery last September that ended his 2015 season, and then he underwent a follow-up procedure in October.
Golf fans have long since abandoned the hope of ever again seeing the old Tiger—the colossus who reigned supreme over the sport. Whereas the question once centered on whether Tiger could catch Jack Nicklaus' 18 major title wins, many wonder if he'll ever get another major championship at all.
The 2016 Open Championship begins on July 14 at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. That doesn't leave Woods much time to warm up, should he get back to playing shape again. The 2016 PGA Championship starts July 28 and will be a much more realistic goal if he's hoping to compete in a major championship this year.
