Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Fred Couples Named Presidents Cup Asst. Captains

According to Bob Harig of ESPN.com, captain Steve Stricker named Tiger Woods, Davis Love III and Fred Couples as his assistant captains for next year's event Wednesday. The Presidents Cup will take place at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey from Sept. 26 through Oct. 1, 2017.
While the Ryder Cup features the United States against a team of European golfers, the Presidents Cup pits the Americans against international players from outside of Europe.
Stricker, Woods and Love should be familiar with one another’s leadership skills, considering Stricker and Woods were assistants under Love at the Ryder Cup.
Woods immediately stands out, considering he is a 14-time major winner and one of the best golfers in the history of the sport. He has a successful resume as a player at the Presidents Cup (24-15-1 record in eight appearances) and could play his way onto the team if he returns to competition and thrives.
Stricker addressed that possibility, per Harig:
Tiger certainly could play his way onto the U.S. team, and if that happens, replacing him as a captain's assistant will be a great problem for me to have. But if he doesn't, I'm honored he accepted this role for the first time in his impressive Presidents Cup career. Tiger has been a great teammate and friend over the years, and I know the U.S. guys will benefit from the experience and camaraderie that only Tiger can bring.
Woods was asked about potentially being a captain in the future after the Ryder Cup win, and he discussed the camaraderie he felt with the team but hinted he would be more interested in playing in the international events, via the U.S. Ryder Cup team's Twitter account:
