The Barclays Odds 2016: Day, Johnson Top Betting Board for FedEx Cup Tournament

The Barclays is the first of four tournaments on tour that make up the playoff system for the FedEx Cup, with defending champion Jason Day listed as the +750 betting favorite (wager $100 to win $750) to defend his title at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark among a strong field of golfers.
Last year, Day became one of four golfers ever to shoot a record 19-under-par for the tournament with a four-day total of 261 at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey. Johnny Miller (1974), Bob Gilder (1982) and Dustin Johnson (2011) are the only other golfers who have accomplished this feat.
However, Johnson shot a 194 in a weather-shortened tournament that lasted 54 holes. Johnson is the +900 second choice to win The Barclays and previously won it at Plainfield five years ago.
The top 125 players on tour will participate in The Barclays. The field will then be narrowed down to 100 for the Deutsche Bank Championship and then to 70 for the BMW Championship before the top 30 compete in the Tour Championship.
Jordan Spieth won the 2015 FedEx Cup with 3,800 points after Billy Horschel (2014) and Henrik Stenson (2013) were the previous two champs with 4,750 apiece.
Spieth has struggled for the most part in 2016, although he may offer a bit of value in an effort to finish the year strong as the +1400 fifth choice behind Day, Johnson, Rory McIlroy (+1000) and Stenson (+1200).
The 23-year-old Dallas native has two wins this year overall but did not fare well in the last three majors following his epic collapse and second-place finish at the Masters back in April.
Stenson won the silver medal in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics behind gold medalist Justin Rose, who also has some value to win The Barclays at +2200.
