Tavistock Cup 2013: Tiger Woods Gains Momentum for Masters After Team Albany Win

He added a cherry to the top of his No. 1 sundae after Team Albany defeated Team Lake Nona (via Fox Sports) in a playoff on Tuesday at the 2013 Tavistock Cup, breaking Lake Nona's four-year run as champ alongside fellow stars and Albany teammates Justin Rose, Tim Clark and Ryder Cup nemesis Ian Poulter.
The two-day event was shortened to just one (via GolfChannel.com) after the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, and Woods' Albany squad won the Cup after Poulter's birdie in the best-ball playoff rang true.
The win caps a stellar week-and-a-half for Woods' golfing and professional life and should give the new World No. 1 an inordinate amount of momentum heading into his biggest test of the 2013 season—the Masters at Augusta.
Tiger won in his personal life in mid-March, co-announcing his relationship with skiing star Lindsey Vonn on Facebook (via ESPN). The athletic duo posted pictures to commemorate the announcement, and Vonn pledged her support for her new beau on Twitter after Woods was re-awarded the coveted crown of golfing's No. 1 man.
Woods earned that place after winning at Bay Hill over the weekend and continued his hot streak in group play at the Tavistock Cup.
Woods tied with teammate Tim Clark by shooting a 73 at Isleworth on Tuesday and then teamed with Poulter in the playoff round to help his team capture the Tavistock victory.
The situation should give Tiger a little bit of a feel of what it's going to be like on Sunday at the Masters. The playoff atmosphere and exclusivity of the Tavistock Cup are great precursors to playing at Augusta starting on April 11, and Woods can add this team win to his already budding list of accomplishments in 2013.
