Golf Digest took note of Henley's historic performance in Hawaii:
Russell Henley just won the Sony Open and recorded the lowest 72-hole total by a rookie in PGA Tour history. Take THAT, rookie nerves.
— Golf Digest (@GolfDigestMag) January 14, 2013 Langley was tied with Henley at 17-under heading into the final round, but a score of seven-under for the final round gave the 23-year-old Georgian his first PGA Tour victory in his first attempt. Langley shot a 70 for par on Sunday and finished fourth.
South Africa's Tim Clark took second with a score of 21-under. He shot an excellent final round, but Henley went on an incredible run in which he birdied the last five holes to close out the event.
Both rookies took well to the course immediately, with Langley opening his tournament with a stunning 62 in the opening round. But Henley hung in with him and shot a 63 to start play.
Henley was remarkably consistent throughout the tournament and shot just two bogeys in all four rounds. PGA Tour Media took note when he unleashed a streak of 50 consecutive holes in which he shot par or better:

— PGA TOUR Media (@PGATOURmedia) January 14, 2013 Other notable finishes include Matt Kuchar's overall score of 16-under to finish tied for fourth and 2012 U.S. Open champ Webb Simpson's 11-under, which tied him for 20th.
But this day belonged to the rookie. Henley was magnificent through all four rounds, and this is unlikely to be the last time his name is brought up in 2013.
