Shell Houston Open 2013: Day 3 Leaderboard Analysis, Highlights and More

Several prominent players capitalized on moving day at the Shell Houston Open, but none did so better than Haas. The 2011 FedEx Cup champion fired a five-under round of 67 that could have been even lower.
While Haas played the par-fives at even par, he got hot in the middle of his day, birdieing fix of six holes between holes No. 6 and 11. Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman pointed out an interesting storyline that a Haas victory would provide:
Cink triumphed at the 2009 British Open, but he hasn't won on Tour since. This is a welcome return to form for the man who ranks 12th on the career money list, as he and Haas fed off of each other's momentum.

The 35-year-old veteran Wheatcroft didn't even qualify for this event until Monday, but he is clearly making the most of the opportunity in Humble. After holding his first lead on the PGA Tour after Round 2, Wheatcroft hung tough amidst a flurry of dangerous pursuers for the most part.
Unfortunately, a skulled sand shot from the greenside bunker at the last hole led to a bogey. He's still just one shot off the lead, though.
