Carnoustie was kind to the field on Friday, as the majority of the top contenders finished with scores of 70 or under. Olin Browne, who is one of the players just behind the leaders, played a flawless round of six under, and Mark McNulty managed a hole-in-one on the 13th.

Recap Idoki played a flawless front nine and finished strongly on the 18th, holing a bunker shot for birdie, to finish with a score of five under. He recorded two bogeys on the back nine, including a poor effort at the 17th that had him in danger of coughing up the lead, but his superb recovery on the final hole saved his round.
Durant was among the late starters and powered his way up the leaderboard with a fine back nine, making four birdies.
They lead a handful of players sitting on six under, including Brown and Sweden's Jesper Parnevik, who is hoping to become the third consecutive Swede to win the Senior British Open.
Parnevik's fine round included a single birdie and a magnificent eagle on the 14th. Per the European Tour's official website, he later said he didn't expect to be competing for the title at his point: “I had no expectation whatever coming into this week. I hurt my back a few weeks ago and hadn’t hit a drive for about a month. Maybe I am just inspired by what Henrik [Stenson] did at Troon last week.”
