Ryder Cup 2016: Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and More Qualify for US Team

The team's official Twitter account announced the eight men who are set to compete in Minnesota:
Patrick Reed secured his spot in the field with a win at the Barclays, knocking out a fading Rickie Fowler. Fowler was in first place heading into Sunday, but his 54-hole lead vanished with a final-round 74, causing him to finish the tournament tied for seventh.
"I wasn't trying to get a decent finish," Fowler said of his poor ending at the Barclays, per Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press. "I was trying to win."

On the plus side, Fowler, as well as Bubba Watson and others, still has a chance to be part of the Ryder Cup team via the captain's picks. According to ESPN.com, captain Davis Love III will choose three more players Sept. 11 before selecting the final participant Sept. 25, five days before the competition begins.

The captain's picks will give these players another opportunity, although nothing is guaranteed at that point.
In the meantime, the United States will hope for strong performances from Johnson and Spieth. Jimmy Walker is coming off a surprising win at the PGA Championship, and Phil Mickelson will bring experience, as he is set to compete in his 11th Ryder Cup. He made his Ryder Cup debut in 1995.
The Americans will need a loaded roster if they want to end their losing streak against Europe. While the United States once dominated its international opponents in the early years against Great Britain, it hasn't had as much success since the team expanded to include members...
