Stenson's gaffes seemed to be a cue for McIlroy to kick his game into overdrive. He hit consecutive birdies at the 14th and 15th, before less-than serenely making work of the final three holes.
However, the par on last hole will haunt McIlroy. He hadn't made the most of his good luck which even afforded the chance of an eagle.
