Rory McIlroy Carves Quail into Irish Stew

Hope you got to see Rory McIlroy take the golf course that made Tiger Woods look like a solid 5-handicapper and carve it up and turn it into Irish stew.
Hope you got to see him make an incredible run of six 3s over the final span of the back nine that shocked the field with a 30 and a new course record, 62, 10-under, and a first PGA Tour championship for the kid from Northern Ireland who turns the ripe age of 21 on Tuesday.
It was magnificent to behold. His 15-under par total thrashed the field.
He took a Shihllelagh to the back nine at Quail Hollow, a beast of a golf course, even by PGA Tour standards. He made it look easy—too easy.
"There's a win and then there's that, whatever that is..." said his countryman, David Feherty for CBS as he tried to describe McIlroy's run to the finish line.
No one saw this coming going into the weekend. Rory barely made the cut, got it on the number, one-over for his first two rounds.
His clubs said the equivalent of, "Hey, look at me..." with a 66 on Saturday. Still, there's no doubt the spotlights were on Masters champ Phil Mickelson, who was right in the mix, poised for a Sunday run. There was no post-Masters letdown for Lefty. He was right in the thick of it.
Phil played pretty good. "I thought 11-under would be the number," he said afterwards when he shot that 68 to get him there.
Had McIlroy not been around, it would have been the number.
"I suppose I got into the zone," McIlroy said, in a drastic understatement. His run of threes started at 13 and ended when he holed a 40-foot plus birdie putt at 18 to put an exclamation point on that first PGA Tour win.
He's now won on both tours.
