Heading into Sunday's singles matches, the United States needed just 3.5 points to secure victory at the 2013 Presidents Cup.

Though it wasn't easy, the American team did just enough to win 18.5 to 15.5.

Tiger Woods sealed the deal with a 1-up win over Richard Sterne to give the Americans their fifth straight Presidents Cup victory, as noted by the Associated Press:

It was the third time in row Woods was the man to put the final nail in the International team's coffin too, as noted by the PGA Tour:

With his win, Woods ensured there would be no collapse to match that of last year's Ryder Cup team. That said, the International team put up a fierce fight, winning seven of the 12 matches and winning the final session by three points, as noted by the Golf Channel:

USA was bombarded early, as the Internationals won four of the first six matches of the day.

Jason Day came out and played like his hair was on fire, beating Brandt Snedeker by the gaudy score of 6 and 4. Though he and Snedeker were the fourth match to start on Sunday, Day's swift work gave the International team the first point of the day.

In a battle between two of the most respected veterans on tour, Ernie Els outlasted Steve Stricker to win 1-up, and Canadian Graham DeLaet did the same to rookie Jordan Spieth, giving the International team three quick points to open up the day.

But Hunter Mahan and Jason Dufner quickly righted the ship for the Americans.

Mahan got on the board first with a 3-and-2 victory over Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama.

After Dufner's 4-and-3 win over Brendon de Jonge—an unheralded captain's pick who played extremely well over the course of the weekend—the United States needed just two more points to secure the cup, as noted by The Presidents Cup on Twitter:
