Presidents Cup 2011: USA Won’t Choke Lead Away in Final Day

The USA will not choke away a 13-9 lead heading into the final day of play in Australia. Book it.
No side has ever come back from down this type of deficit in the history of the Presidents Cup. This isn’t a competition that has been around for only a few years—it has been around for 17 years. There is a strong history to this trend.
The largest rally in any team event in golf history has been four points, with the Americans coming back in the 1999 Ryder Cup.
The United States has won this event four straight years. The International side has only won the event once, and that was at Royal Melbourne in 1998. Winning it year after year will only remind the Americans and their opposition that this is a tournament that is dominated by one side. If this happens to get close on the final day, expect the Americans to have the mental edge.
The Americans are playing so well right now, even former great Tiger Woods is chipping in with positive play. It only took him a couple days, but Woods finally made his mark in the event by posting a point on Saturday morning. You know it’s your tournament when Woods can have a bright spot in a clutch moment of the event.
Twelve singles matches will take place on the final day. The Americans need to win just 4.5 points to take the competition. If they can’t grab those points on Sunday, they have some major soul-searching to do. It would be unacceptable.
With leaders like Fred Couples, Jim Furyk and others, the American side should not collapse. Not only will they achieve 4.5 points, but they will eclipse it easily. This has been and will continue to be the Americans' tournament.
