Phil Mickelson Now Holds Dubious Ryder Cup Record: Most Losses In U.S. History

Phil's overall Ryder Cup record, including the 0-2 start in Wales, is now 10-16-6. The most alarming part of that career Ryder Cup record is what he has done in recent years. In his last 16 matches he is 2-11-3.
As bad as he's been in foursomes and four-balls, his singles record, where the Americans have tended to excel in recent Ryder Cups, is perhaps the most perplexing. His singles record is 3-4. Usually ranked in the top two or three in the world over the last few Ryder Cups, this means Mickelson is losing many of these matches to players ranked much lower than him in the world rankings.
Mickelson, teamed with Dustin Johnson for both the opening matches, lost the first match to Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer, a strong duo for captain Colin Montgomerie's Euro team.
However, if you could cut Phil any slack for the difficulty of the first match, you can not for the second match. Mickelson and Johnson were strong favorites over the team of Paddy Harrington and Ross Fisher. Harrington has been nothing shy of awful in match play for several years now.
Harrington and Fisher went out and whipped the Americans three and two. It was Harrington's first win playing with a partner since 2004.
As many of the younger players have stepped up in Wales through the first half of the matches, Mickelson has not. If the Americans wish to retain the cup, they will need Mickelson to come through at some point this weekend.
