Only Simpson or Donald can end up with the money title and the five years exemption on the PGA Tour that comes with it, and only one of these two can become Player of the Year. Both titles are still up for grabs.
Or are they?
Winning the money title does not seem to secure Donald the POY-title. The players on the PGA Tour decides who should have the honor, and right now – before anything is settled in Florida in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic – it looks like some players have already made up their mind.
Number 124 on the money list, Bobby Gates, is one of them. He would like to see fellow countryman Simpson take the POY award.
In an article on Golf.com, this week’s defending champion Robert Garrigus agrees with Gates. "I've made my mind up," Garrigus says to Golf.com. "I would vote for Webb. I mean, he's had such an unbelievable year. If you look at how many top-10s he's made [11], it's almost more than some guys have played in tournaments. What has he made? $6 million? That's Tiger money, and that's pretty special."
Well, if Donald finish on top of that money list, it means he has made even more money than Simpson. What’s good for the gander…
However, it won’t be the first time a European is looked over in what could be taken for pro-American bias. Rickie Fowler, who has still not won on the PGA Tour was chosen as Rookie of the Year over Rory McIlroy who won in crushing style at both Wachovia and the US Open.
