PGA Championship 2016: Latest Expectations for Golf’s Top Favorites and Sleepers

Coming into the year, many expected the trio of Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy to dominate the big events like this, but that hasn't been the case. Danny Willett surprised many with his win at the Masters, followed by Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson winning their first majors at the U.S. Open and British Open, respectively.
There are definitely favorites coming into this week at Baltusrol, but you also shouldn't count out the sleepers who can surprise fans with a great four days. Here is a look at the top odds to win the upcoming major and some players to watch.
Favorites Dustin Johnson
No one in the world is playing better golf than Dustin Johnson at the moment. He most notably won the U.S. Open, but he also followed that up with a win at the Bridgestone Invitational.
The golfer's last couple of months have been impressive, as the PGA Tour noted:
His tie for ninth at the Open Championship was his worst showing in this stretch, while he is also coming off a tie for second at the RBC Canadian Open. He is driving the ball far, getting to the green in regulation and putting well enough to rack up birdies.
None of this guarantees a victory—he still needs to put together four good rounds in Springfield, N.J.—but it would almost be a surprise to see Johnson outside of the top 10 based on how well he has played.
