PGA Championship 2013 Predictions: Projecting Best and Worst Performances

The top golfers in the world are in Rochester, N.Y., this week for the final major of 2013, the PGA Championship. Oak Hill Country Club is no walk in the park, and it’s going to be extremely difficult for the field to stay under par throughout the week. We’re bound to see some good, bad and ugly performances.
Last year, Rory McIlroy had the best performance at Kiawah Island, as he won his second major championship. McIlroy shot 13 under for the tournament, which was eight strokes better than anyone else. He did so despite shooting a 75 in the second round, which makes his overall week that much more impressive.
Brandt Snedeker was one of many golfers that week who didn’t shine his brightest. The American failed to make the cut after shooting a 77 on Thursday and a 78 on Friday. He’s one of the best golfers in the world, but that doesn’t mean he’s always going to perform at a high level.
That said, here’s a look at three golfers who are in the field for the PGA Championship this week, with a prediction of how they’ll play at Oak Hill.
Best Performance: Lee Westwood
Lee Westwood is still seeking the first major championship victory of his career, but he’s certainly come close on a few occasions this year. He finished tied for eighth at the Masters, tied for 15th at the U.S. Open and tied for third at the Open Championship. The waiting is over, as he’ll have the best performance of the week at Oak Hill.
Westwood was cut from the PGA Championship a year ago at Kiawah Island and will be looking to make up for his poor two rounds. He can do so by relying on what he’s done all season long: signing low scorecards. Westwood has the 13th-best scoring average on the PGA Tour this season.
