The TNT team of Ernie Johnson (play-by-play), Ian Baker-Finch (analyst), Billy Kratzert (analyst) and Vince Cellini all had plenty of time to talk golf when they came on the air at 1 p.m.and signed off a little after 7 p.m (EST)—that's six hours to fill.
Even the CBS gang got to join in on the conversation as Jim Nantz, Sir Nick Faldo and David Feherty got some air time on Friday's telecasts.
Here are some of the best quotes from Friday's telecast (provided to Bleacher Report by Turner Sports).
Yesterday was a very good day for co-leader Vijay Singh who ended tied for first at 4-under par. So the normally guarded Singh had plenty to say to Cellini about the wild and windy conditions at The Ocean course at Kiawah Island.
“Going out was okay. You try to make a few birdies if you can keep your score under par, but from holes five to 13—that nine-hole stretch—you just survive. You try to hit the fairway and the green and manage your score.”
Speaking of the wind, it played havoc with the score as 35 golfers posted scores over 80. The conditions were more like a British Open layout than a PGA Championship course. The conditions prompted the following from Ian Baker-Finch, who spent some time on the European Tour and knows something about those windy courses in the U.K.
“The wind has really made a difference…the strategy changes and the players have to avoid disaster. There are doubles and triples [bogeys] on a course like this on every hole.”
