This will also be the first major to feature Tiger Woods since the Masters. With that comes the possibility of a weekend pairing with Rory McIlroy or Adam Scott and his new caddy, Steve Williams.
The 2011 PGA Championship also marks its return to the Highlands Course of the Atlanta Athletic Club. The last time it was there was 2001, when David Toms made a 20-foot par putt on the final hole to edge Phil Mickelson by one shot.
That week, Toms, Mickelson and third-place finisher Steve Lowery all carded four rounds in the 60s.
In addition to Woods and his attempt to regain his form, the 2011 PGA Championship offers plenty of storylines.
Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are the No. 1 and No. 2 golfers in the world, respectively, but neither has won a major. Both are looking to rebound from a disappointing British Open, where each missed the cut.
No. 3 in the world is Martin Kaymer, who was 2010's PGA champion. No. 7 Dustin Johnson is also looking to avenge his major frustration, which was highlighted by a tough ruling in a fairway bunker last year that cost him a spot in a playoff with Kaymer and Bubba Watson.
U.S. Open champion and No. 5 in the world Rory McIlroy is also looking to come back from a less-than-stellar performance at the British Open.
While there has been plenty of drama around past major champions, 2011 could give us the first year since 2003 where all four major champions hadn’t previously won a major.
The PGA Championship tees off on August 11 and concludes on August 14 with TNT and CBS having the coverage.
