Northern Trust Open: Who’s in and Who’s out at Riviera

Sang-Moon Bae and Fredrik Jacobson share the 36-hole lead at the Northern Trust Open at nine-under par.
The cut came at one-over par with some familiar names leaving Los Angeles early and heading over to Tuscon, Arizona to prepare for the WGC-Accenture Match Play next week.
Who’s out
Padraig Harrington has been playing well of late, but evidently Riviera did not fit his game this week—after rounds of 77 and 71, he is trunk slammin’ and moving on.
Dustin Johnson got off to a poor start on Thursday with a 76, and even though he carded a two-under par 69 Friday, he will miss the cut.
Graeme McDowell made his first start this year and his game showed a little rust. Posting 73-72 for the first two rounds, McDowell can move on to Tucson for the WGC-Accenture next week.
Tour rookie Patrick Cantlay found it much easier to make cuts on the PGA Tour as a college student. He shot 70-75 and will miss the cut.
Charles Howell III finished at three-over par for the first two rounds and will miss the cut. He qualified for the match play next week as the No. 63 seed and will face Tiger Woods in the first match.
Bubba Watson recovered nicely on Friday with a 71, but his ugly 77 from Thursday will let him get to Arizona early to practice for next week.
Who’s In
The top of the leaderboard includes some big names; Luke Donald, Charl Schwartzel, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar, Bill Haas and Lee Westwood are all in the Top 10 heading into the weekend.
Matt Kuchar led after his first round 64 but had a rough day on Friday with two double-bogeys on the card—he hung in there to post a second round 73 for a total of five-under par and is tied for ninth.
