Matt Kuchar Comments on Tiger Woods Potentially Playing in 2016 Ryder Cup

"I heard even, possibly, this is hearsay, but I've heard maybe even Tiger Woods could potentially be a pick," Kuchar said after earning a spot on the team Monday, per Alex Myers of Golf Digest. "That would be legen-dary. Legendary."
Woods hasn't played a competitive event in more than a year, last appearing in August 2015 at the Wyndham Championship, where he finished in a tie for 10th.
He has been out of action since then while recovering from two back surgeries.
However, on Sept. 7, the 14-time major champion announced a potential return to action on his personal website, declaring the Safeway Open, which starts Oct. 13, his goal.
"My rehabilitation is to the point where I'm comfortable making plans, but I still have work to do," Woods said. "Whether I can play depends on my continued progress and recovery. My hope is to have my game ready to go."
Although Woods hasn't won a major since the 2008 U.S. Open, the PGA Tour's official website noted he is still the leader in total wins since that year:
It would be bold for the team to trust the 40-year-old coming off an extended layoff, but he is one of the best golfers of all time.
Woods is a vice captain for the Ryder Cup team alongside captain Davis Love III. Love named Kuchar as one of three wild-card picks Monday, along with Rickie Fowler and J.B. Holmes, according to Steve DiMeglio of USA Today.
Love will announce the fourth and final captain's selection Sept. 25, just a few days before the Sept. 30 start of the tournament.
Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson are among the players who automatically qualified through their play in 2015-16.
