K.J. Choi’s Players Championship Win Means More Than You Think

What made the win special for K.J. Choi?
Though he has won 18 professional golf tournaments worldwide, this was the biggest win of his career. He became the very first Asian to win The Players Championship, and he realized the importance of this particular event.
"This means a lot for the population of Korea,” Choi said after his win. "Young players, old players watch this on television and it is another goal met. I am so happy."
The PGA must be happy as well. The dramatic final capped a long, grinding day for the players, and the tournament was hampered severely by strong storms that brought heavy rains.
The day began with a number of players who were in contention and provided plenty of interesting story lines leading to the sudden-death playoff.
The day also proved that even though some of the familiar cast of players missed the cut, withdrew or were not in contention, the game itself can still provide thrilling and memorable moments.
Choi also proved to be a great example to many of the 20-somethings on the tour. He displayed great focus and nerves of steel when he needed to.
Choi said, “I was able to be precise and aggressive and keep my rhythm together.” Being precise and aggressive allowed him to seize the outright lead and secure the win.
This was Choi's eighth win on the PGA Tour, and he has also spent more than 39 weeks in the top 10 of the world rankings. With his impressive win at TPC Sawgrass, he will continue to be a player to watch, admire and respect.
