Jordan Spieth closed out the 2016 U.S. Open in rough fashion. He shot a five-over 75 in the final round Sunday at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

Spieth headed to the clubhouse in a tie for 39th at nine over.

Here's his hole-by-hole scorecard for Round 4:

The tournament's final day officially ended what was an impressive streak for Spieth, per ESPN.com's Jason Sobel:

Spieth's hopes of defending his U.S. Open title were effectively dashed after the third round. He posted back-to-back two-over 72s in the first two rounds and then an even-par 70 in Round 3. Scoring has been low throughout the tournament, so anything short of a historic comeback would have meant the 22-year-old falling well short of his goal.

On Saturday, Spieth said he was looking to "come out tomorrow and try and pull a Johnny Miller," per GolfChannel.com's Jay Coffin. Miller shot a final-round 63 to come from behind and win the 1973 U.S. Open at Oakmont.

Spieth opened with pars on his first and second holes but lost a stroke with a bogey on No. 3. The final nail in his U.S. Open coffin came on the par-three sixth hole. His tee shot found a bunker to the left of the green, and after getting on the surface with his second shot, he subsequently four-putted to card a triple bogey.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, it's the second time he's registered a triple bogey or worse in a major tournament. Spieth memorably had a quadruple bogey on the 12th hole in the final round of the 2016 Masters, costing him a second green jacket.

GolfChannel.com's Randall Mell thought Spieth's triple bogey was an indicator of how the rest of the day would unfold:

The Associated Press' Doug Ferguson noted it wasn't the first time Spieth four-putted at a major—albeit under much different circumstances:
