Jim Furyk Shoots First-Ever 58 Round in PGA Tour History

After hitting a long birdie putt for 57 within two feet of the hole on the 18th, Furyk easily converted par to preserve the 58, as seen in this video courtesy of the PGA Tour:
He shot 12 under for the day in a round that included 10 birdies, one eagle and no bogeys, per Golf Channel:
Six golfers have carded a 59 in a PGA Tour round, and the 46-year-old American is the most recent to do so, in 2013. He's the only golfer to break 60 twice in PGA Tour events.
PGA Tour provided a GIF of Furyk's celebration as he headed toward the clubhouse to sign his scorecard and make the 58 official:
While he is unlikely to have any ill feelings about his performance, any score higher than a 58 may have haunted him due largely to a birdie putt that lipped out on the 15th hole:
Furyk bounced back from that bad break, however, with a birdie on the par-three 16th. He also birdied seven consecutive holes (Nos. 6-12) to put himself in position for the record.
His play off the tee and with his irons was a big part of his success. As Greg Hansen of the Arizona Daily Star pointed out, Furyk didn't miss a single green in regulation Sunday:
He entered the final round at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, in 70th place at one over for the tournament, but by the time he finished his day, he was in fifth place at 11 under and the clubhouse leader.
While a win is unlikely, Furyk earned something far greater by etching his name in the sport's history forever.
