Jim Furyk Injury: Updates on Golfer’s Wrist and Return

Furyk's Agent Issues Statement on Golfer's Status Friday, Sept. 18 Furyk's agent Andrew Whitlieb issued a statement, per PGA Tour:
"I only have two more events to finish out the season, and I would love to be ready for both of them," Furyk said, per Bob Harig of ESPN. "If I can't get ready for next week, I would like to get ready for the Presidents Cup. But I also want to play with a chance to compete, and right now being out here I have no chance to compete this week with the pain I was feeling."
Barring a major surprise, however, this withdrawal will take him out of contention for the 2015 trophy, as Jason Day and Jordan Spieth already have a sizable lead over the field.
While this is the first time Furyk has withdrawn from a tournament since 1995, he's not a stranger to wrist pain. Harig noted that Furyk missed extended time with an injury to his left wrist in 2004, though the pain is on a different side this time around.
Furyk is scheduled to be one of 12 Americans representing his country at the 2015 Presidents Cup in October. United States captain Jay Haas would have to select a replacement if he's forced to miss the event. Haas already selected Phil Mickelson and Bill Haas as his initial two captain's picks.
While still highly unlikely, a Furyk absence would open up the chance for Haas to select Tiger Woods as a final member of the team.
Given Woods' 2015 performance, he should go in another direction. That said, it wouldn't be the first time a captain has gone off reputation over performance.
