It was a thrilling way to start off the third PGA event of the season, as several golfers appeared to be on top of their games.
Castro, who missed the cut last week in Hawaii after a promising 2012 season, racked up nine birdies and zero bogies. So did Hahn, who finished 67th last week.
Coming off a 72nd-place finish in Hawaii, Kokrak took a fairly different route to the top of the leaderboard. He also avoided any bogeys, but he managed to eagle holes No. 6 and No. 11 on his way to an impressive day.
There are a few more intriguing names if you go down the list, too.
Twenty-three-year-old Russell Henley, who won the Sony Open last week and has appeared in just three career PGA tournaments, is once again in the mix at eight under after grabbing an eagle and two birdies on his last six holes of the day.
Australian Aaron Baddeley easily had the biggest roller coaster of a day. The 31-year-old birdied his first three holes, then bogeyed No. 5, birdied the next two, bogeyed No. 8, calmed down for a while and finally eagled two of his last five holes to finish eight under.
