A 156-player field will take the par-70, 7,166-yard long TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas course and try to take the winner's purse of $1.17 million from the $6.5 million total prize fund.
This tournament usually provides plenty of drama and gets decided in the final holes. Since 1999, six times the tournament has been extended to a playoff finish—the last two times, last year and in 2008.
In 2008, Adam Scott sank a sensational 48-foot putt on the third playoff hole to win it victory over Ryan Moore. And last year, Keegan Bradley got his first PGA Tour win when he won on the first playoff hole over Ryan Palmer.
The top four players in the world will not be present this weekend, but the field is loaded with talent, and very interesting names headline the field.
Last year's champ, Bradley, is back to defend his title. He will be joined by this past weekend's Players Championship winner Matt Kuchar and recent Hall of Fame inductee Phil Mickelson.
Bradley started the year strong, but since his T4 at the Shell Houston Open, in four tournaments he has missed the cut twice. Last year, he finished with a 68 to tie Palmer and eventually win in the first extra hole, maybe this tournament is what the doctor prescribed for him.
Kuchar must still be celebrating from his victory at the Players last Sunday. He is now up to fifth in the world rankings, and may be playing his best golf. He finished T6 last year and with four weeks to go for the U.S. Open, this tournament can help him keep his hot play and moving forward.
Mickelson was never able to get a low round at the Players last weekend. After his T3 at the Masters he has not finished inside the top 25. But being the streaky player ...
