Greenbrier Classic: Webb Simpson, Brendon De Jonge Take Lead into Weekend

de Jonge is a fan favorite of sorts having played his collegiate golf not too far from the Greenbrier at Virginia Tech.
Hearing cheers from the Hokie Nation seem to elevate de Jonge's game on his way to firing a second round score of three-under-par (67) to earn the co-lead with Webb Simpson.
"It's a little bit of adrenaline," the Zimbabwe native told the AP . "Keeps you going. It's always a little pick-me-up if you're struggling a little bit. It's fun. It's nice to hear 'Go Hokies' on every tee."
Webb Simpson who shot an impressive opening round score of 65 could not seem to find the key to the Greenbrier he had on Thursday.
During his opening round, James Fredrick "Webb" Simpson was able to circle seven birdies to only two bogeys.
On Saturday however, Simpson was actually one-over-par on the front with all pars except for his lone bogey on the par-three third hole.
The Charlotte North Carolina native started off his back nine better birding the tenth, but saw that birdie slip away has he bogeyed the next hole.
Simpson also played his collegiate golf not too far from this weekend’s action.
A member of the Wake Forest golf team just five hours down the road, I'm sure he will have some "Demon Deacons' in his corner this weekend in West Virginia.
Finishing at two-under-par Simpson would find himself at seven-under and with a share of the lead with de Jonge to begin Saturday.
"It’s all a good feeling knowing I have a chance to win going into the weekend," Simpson told AHN . "But it was just another couple of solid rounds. And this afternoon was trickier with the wind. But I was able to get a couple of them coming in, which is always nice."
