After day one at the Greenbrier Classic, Trevor Immelman’s opening round 64 stamped his name atop the leaderboard. The South African has been trying to return to his 2008 form after suffering a wrist injury.
"My wrist has been pretty good, it hasn't bothered me at all," said Immelman, "So I've been able to get back to some of the stuff I used to do four or five years ago."
"Some of that stuff" includes a green jacket in 2008.
The crowded leaderboard had more to do with the mild wind and humid conditions. Four players finished one stroke behind Immelman: Billy Mayfair, Derek Lamely, Webb Simpson, Steven Bowditch and Gary Woodland all shot rounds of 65—five under par.
Most of the low scores from day one were shot by the morning of day two as the West Virginia dew evaporated on the greens.
As the conditions firm up fans can expect the scoring to level off.
