Greenbrier Classic: Trevor Immelman Cards an Opening Round 64 to Take the Lead

However, Trevor Immelman did fire an opening round six-under(-par) 64 to take the overnight lead at "America’s Resort."
The 31-year-old South African began his day on the back nine at the Greenbrier and got off to a quick start.
He birdied his first hole, No. 10, then going on to record three more birdies to only one bogey to go out at 33, three under par.
Immelman did not let up on his back nine carding three more birdies on holes four, six and seven to come in with 31 and a first day total of 64, six under par.
On his way to the opening round lead, the 2008 Masters champion hit 64.3 percent of the fairways, hit 17 of the 18 greens in regulation and needed only 28 putts on the receptive greens.
Trevor who has been struggling to stay consistent in his last few PGA Tour events, having missed four of his last six cuts, said in an interview with Reuters he was happy to be back in good form.
“Obviously I'm excited with the 64 today. Any time you shoot a number like that it's exciting. That's why you put all the hard work in.”
"It's been a frustrating couple of years not being able to swing the way I want to swing and practice the way I want to practice." Recently, Immelman has also been fighting off a nagging tendinitis condition in his wrist.
This injury could have had something to do with him missing 10 of 19 cuts last season on the PGA Tour.
"My wrist has been pretty good," the two-time PGA Tour winner said. "It hasn't bothered me at all so I've been able to get back to some of the stuff I used to do four or five years ago.
I've seen some signs of good play and some good shots at the right time."
