Golfer Jason Day Loses Eight Family Members Due to Typhoon Haiyan

According to the Herald Sun's Dwayne Grant, Australian golfer Jason Day is among that group, as he has lost his grandmother, an aunt and six cousins in the storm:
Among the thousands killed by the massive storm were Day's grandmother, an uncle and six cousins. One aunt was found alive despite being swept to another village, while another aunt's family survived after binding themselves together with rope and taking refuge in an attic.
Day made the following statement in a PGA Tour release, via CBS News:
I am deeply saddened to confirm that multiple members of my family lost their lives as the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. My family and I are thankful for all who have reached out with their prayers and concern.
We feel devastated for all who have been affected by this horrific tragedy. While I understand the media's interest in this matter and hope that any coverage can spread awareness to assist with the relief efforts that continue in the Philippines, I hope that all will respect my family's privacy during this difficult time. I will have no further public comments at this time. Please pray for all who have suffered loss. Thank you.
It's impossible to imagine how Day might be feeling, but perhaps golf can at least help him take his mind off this tragedy for a couple of hours. According to the Herald Sun report, he plans on playing in the World Cup of Golf in Melbourne, which starts on Thursday. He will team up with Adam Scott to represent Australia.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed tremendous success in 2013. Although he didn't win any tournaments, he made every cut and tallied seven top-10 finishes, three of which came at the Masters, U.S. Open and PGA Championship.
